Jack Duggan

Maybe you have heard of Jack Duggan before?

"The Wild Colonial Boy" is a traditional Irish-Australian ballad with various versions, mainly Irish and Australian. It tells the story of Jack Donahue, an Irish rebel turned convict and bushranger, who was killed by police. Due to its seditious content, the name was changed to Jack Doolan. The Irish version features Jack Duggan, an emigrant from Castlemaine, County Kerry, who went to Australia in the early 19th century, described as "robbing from the rich to feed the poor." Duggan is ultimately shot in the heart by Fitzroy during an ambush.
